FOC Advisory Network Open Call Launched – Apply Now!

The Freedom Online Coalition (FOC) is pleased to announce an open call for applications to its newly established FOC Advisory Network (FOC-AN).

The FOC-AN is intended to serve as a key mechanism for the Coalition to engage regularly with non-governmental Internet stakeholders. It is envisaged as a platform for multistakeholder dialogue which, independently of FOC members, provides advice to FOC governments on the work of the FOC, organizes multistakeholder collaboration around FOC activities, and explores possibilities for cooperation to advance human rights online.

You can find the FOC-AN’s Terms of Reference here.

These terms of Reference were developed through a public consultation process, run by the the Advisory Network Chartering Group*. Contributions were received from civil society, the private sector and other stakeholders, providing rich feedback that informed the development of a Terms of Reference that is inclusive and reflects the interests of the Internet freedom community.

Interested individuals are now invited to apply through completing this form by Thursday, January 11, 2018.

The first Advisory Network cohort shall be selected by the Advisory Network Chartering Group through an open application process administered by the FOC Support Unit.

Selection shall be guided by stakeholder group balance, gender balance, geographic balance, commitment to the values of the FOC (including respect for the right to freedom of expression and rights to association, assembly, and privacy online worldwide) and relevant expertise.

Applications from developing and least developed countries are actively encouraged. Please note that participation in the Advisory Network is voluntary, and membership is open to non-governmental stakeholders only.

The call will remain open until COB Thursday, January 11, 2018. Successful applicants will be notified of the outcome by early February.

If you have any questions, please contact us at info@freedomonlinecoalition.com

*To assist the Coalition in setting up the Advisory Network and developing its draft terms of reference, the FOC Friends of the Chair established an ad hoc Advisory Network Chartering Group (CG) comprised of Matthew Shears (former co-chair of FOC working Group 1), Katharine Kendrick (former co-chair of FOC Working Group 3), and the governments of Costa Rica, Finland and Germany.
